FME IS NOT JUST ABOUT SPATIAL DATA, IT IS ABOUT ALL DATA
Self-serve lets the end-user to select and download the data they require, in the format and structure they require, or to upload data for processing. It eliminates the need for a data manager/analyst to carry out manual data distribution tasks.
An example could be letting users upload shapefiles for processing and delivered back complete.
Real-time is the ability to react to real-time events and changes, to carry out immediate updates, and to deliver instant notifications. It allows subscribers to have the most up-to-date information for their business decision making.
An example could be a log event on a server, an appropriate user emailed.
Automation is the ability to carry out data processing on a specific schedule and to spontaneously move data through different systems and web services – even onto mobile platforms and devices. It allows data to move from anywhere, to anywhere, without manual intervention.
An example of automation could be getting hourly road traffic information.
Manage user accounts with control over how and what users can do within FME Server.
FME Desktop is the application that creates the complex workbenches then has the capability to publish to FME Server leveraging the enterprise level architecture and enabling automation, self serve and reba-time processing.
FME Server has limited capabilities for creating and editing workbenches so we use FME Desktop to create workspaces in FME Server for an intended use.
